Two main paths are available for those interested in investing in oil and gas. The most common method is to buy stock in a publicly traded company that explores and develops oil and gas fields. The second way is to directly participate in one or more well drilling projects where investors directly own a portion of the well and receive a share of the income generated.
Direct oil and gas drilling participation programs are usually "turnkey projects". This means that the company sets a fixed or pre-determined amount for drilling and well completion. As a result, investors know the exact amount of their investment that is committed to the drilling and investment operations.
